The CBSE has urged the University Grants Commission (UGC) to instruct colleges and institutions to accept digital copies of students’ marksheets stored in DigiLocker as well as Class 12 migration certificates for making admissions decisions, saying the documents are legally valid.

The board comes after some students complained that universities asked them to submit a paper-printed copy of the migration certificate.

We’ve noticed that some universities require students to produce a paper-printed copy of their migration certificate. Although the CBSE will soon provide the students with the printed copy, it is advised that documents like marksheets-cum-passing certificates and migration certificates that are available in DigiLocker with digital signatures are also legally acceptable and should be accepted by all higher education institutions, CBSE Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj said.

The results for Class 12 were released on July 22 by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

The marksheets together with passing certificates and migration certificates of the students were made available in their DigiLocker as soon as the results were announced. The examinations controller has digitally signed both of the documents that are accessible in DigiLocker, Bhardwaj continued.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology offers DigiLocker, an online service for digitisation in India, as part of the Digital India project of the Centre.
