Centre Notifies Udangudi for Coal Imports

The Central Government has issued a new customs notification amending the list of approved customs locations in Tamil Nadu. Under this amendment, Udangudi has been identified as a place for unloading of imported coal by customs.
The Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, has issued a notification, amending a customs notification issued in 1994 under the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC). The change has been made under powers conferred by the Customs Act, 1962.
With this, the Udangudi is now officially a customs-notified point at which imported coal can be unloaded. This is likely to ease coal imports for industries and power projects in the region as customs clearance can be done at the port.
Notification No. 66/2026–Customs (N.T.) dated 20-07-2026. Udangudi is now in the list of customs locations in Tamil Nadu for the unloading of imported coal only.
