The Central Government has exempted raw cotton imports under Tariff Heading 5201 from customs duty and AIDC from June 1, 2026, to October 31, 2026.

Government Grants Temporary Customs Duty Exemption on Raw Cotton Imports The Ministry of Finance, Government of India, has issued Notification No. 19/2026-Customs dated 30th May 2026 regarding the temporary exemption on the import of raw cotton into India from customs duties.

The Central Government, using its power under Section 25(1) of the Customs Act, 1962, and Section 124 of the Finance Act, 2021, has decided that cotton falling under Customs Tariff Heading 5201 will be exempt from the entire Customs Duty as well as the Agriculture Infrastructure and Development Cess (AIDC).
GST Exemption Dispute on Dredging Services Left Open by Goa Appellate Authority
The exemption will come into effect from June 1, 2026, and will remain valid up to and including October 31, 2026.
