CG Amends Aadhaar Act to make KYC for mobile connection & bank a/c compulsory

Central Government on 2nd March 2019 amended the Aadhaar Act and two related laws in order to make KYC for procuring mobile connection and bank Account compulsory.

The compulsory use of Aadhaar-based KYC for mobile connections and bank accounts was prohibited by the Supreme court's judgement dated 26th September 2018.

The Aadhaar and Other Laws (Amendment) Ordinance 2019 has amended the Aadhaar Act, Indian Telegraph Act and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act to comply with a Supreme Court judgement pronounced on 26th September 2018, in which it upheld the constitutional validity of unique identification project with certain restrictions and changes.
