CGST Deputy Commissioner including 4 Inspectors arrested for taking Bribe by CBI

The Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) arrested Central GST Deputy Commissioner Kapil Kamle and four inspectors in Jabalpur for taking a bribe of Rs.7 lakh. According to the CBI, the deputy commissioner wanted a Rupees one crore payment from a pan masala merchant in Rajasthan in order to stop the operation. The entrepreneur had paid Rs.25 lakh. Following this, the businessman filed a case with the CBI after being harassed.

Trilekchand Sen, a pan masala merchant from Dausa, claimed he established a KGH pan masala plant at Nohta, Damoh, two years ago. When things did not go smoothly, the plant fell bankrupt. The Central GST team invaded here on May 19, 2023. He filed the recovery, claiming Rs.10 lakh in tax arrears.

According to the trader, he has already paid the whole tax. Despite this, the healing was completed. During the action, the Central GST team had shut the plant. Although GST authorities were aware that the plant was losing money, no action was done.

Trilokchand stated that CGST authorities were asking one crore rupees to restart the facility. He declined to offer money multiple times. Later, the price was reduced to Rs.35 lakh. It was decided to pay the total sum in three installments. Trilokchand had contributed 25 lakhs for the first installment. Following that, continual pressure was applied to give the remaining funds.

The businessman stated that he became irritated and complained to the CBI two days earlier. Following this, a strategy was devised to apprehend the Deputy Commissioner and his staff. Trilokchand grabbed Rs.7 lakh in a pan spice bag and delivered it to the manager on Tuesday evening. The CBI squad nabbed the culprit red-handed as soon as the money was provided. During the office operation, the CBI also obtained Rs.21 lakh in cash. Aside from Deputy Commissioner Kapil Kamle, the CBI team is now questioning Sumit Goswami, Vikas Gupta, and two additional inspectors.
