The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) inspector on Wednesday after he allegedly accepted a bribe of Rs 10,000 to allegedly favour a businessman in a tax dispute.

According to ACB officials, the complainant operates a housekeeping business under his mother’s name. He neglected to pay service tax between 2014 and 2017, prompting the CGST department to issue a notice and freeze the complainant’s mother’s bank account.

The complainant then filed an appeal to have the bank account unfrozen. To unfreeze the bank account, an enclosure number was necessary. When the plaintiff asked the CGST inspector for this number, he demanded Rs 10,000.

The complainant refused to pay the bribe and filed a complaint with the Ahmedabad City ACB police station. Based on the complaint, a trap was set up and the accused was caught accepting the Rs 10,000 from the complainant.
