The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Superintendent of Central Goods and Service Tax of Rudrapur Division which is in Udham Singh Nagar District of Uttarakhand while accepting a bribe of Rs.10,000 from the complainant.

The CBI opened an investigation after receiving a complaint against the accused CGST Superintendent, Division-Rudrapur, District Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand.

It was said that the accused demanded a bribe of Rs.15,000 from the complainant in order to activate a suspended GSTIN for his wife’s business. The bribe amount was eventually decreased to Rs.10,000.

The CBI set a trap and nabbed the accused red-handed while collecting a bribe of Rs. 10,000.

Searches were performed on the accused’s properties in Rudrapur (District Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand) and Ambala (Haryana). Searches resulted in the recovery of papers, including two lockers, bank accounts, and certain incriminating documents.

The investigation is continuing.
