CGST team attacked during raid in Ludhiana

A Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) team that had gone on a raid was attacked on Friday afternoon on Basant Avenue by the family and their proxies. Along with physically assaulting the officials, the suspects reportedly used a brick to vandalise their vehicle. To ensure their safety, the crew had to call the police.

In response to the CGST Inspector’s allegation, the Sadar police filed a FIR against the owner of the residence, Yashpal Mehta, his daughter Shakumbra Mehta, his daughters-in-law Alka Mehta, and their as-yet-unidentified accomplices.

Inspector Rohit Meena said that Yashpal Mehta’s home in Basant Avenue had been raided by a team of CGST officers, including assistant commissioners Hemant Kumar and Baljeet Singh Khara. Alka, Shakumbra, and Yashpal’s daughter began organising people outside the house as the search warrants called for when the house was being searched. They were hindered in their work by the assembled individuals and the family members. When the officials attempted to leave, the accused blocked their path as well. They then made a call to the nearby police department.

Alka, Shakumbra, and his daughter and daughters-in-law called Yashpal’s for help from outside the home as they were conducting the search. The accused held the officials captive while they were performing their duties. But the CGST representatives promptly alerted the police about the event. The cops quickly saved them, the Inspector continued. The accused stopped them as soon as they left the residence. Hemant Kumar, an assistant commissioner, was mistreated by Yashpal Mehta. The accused attempted to drag the Assistant Commissioner out of the car by grabbing his collar.

According to ASI Shubhash Chand, in charge of the Basant Avenue police post, cases have been filed against Yashpal Mehta, his daughters-in-law Alka Mehta and Shakumbra Mehta under sections 186 (obstructing public servants in the performance of their public functions), 353, 506, 332, and 427 (mischief causing damage to property worth fifty rupees). The accused will be detained by the police shortly.
