Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Faces Rs 8.37 Lakh GST Interest Demand Over Delayed GSTR-3B Filing:

Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd. has received an order from the Deputy Commissioner of Appeals, Chennai (Central), Tamil Nadu, confirming an interest demand of Rs 8.37 lakh for the period from July 2017 to March 2018.

The company said the demand relates to the delayed filing of GSTR-3B returns, even though the required tax had already been deposited in its Electronic Cash Ledger before the due date. According to the company, the return could not be filed on time because of a technical error on the GST portal.

The Deputy Commissioner of Appeals has upheld the earlier order passed by the Assistant Commissioner (ST), Pondy Bazaar Assessment Circle, for FY 2017-18. The total demand of Rs 8.37 lakh consists entirely of interest, with no additional tax demand. This includes Rs 1.02 lakh of CGST interest and Rs 7.35 lakh of SGST interest.

Crompton Greaves said it plans to appeal against the order under Section 112 of the SGST Act, 2017. Based on the merits of the case, applicable laws and advice from its consultant, the company expects a favourable outcome from the appellate authorities.

The company also clarified that the matter is not expected to have any material impact on its financials, operations or other activities.
