Deadline for granting annual life certificates, also known as Jeevan Pramaan Patra, is not November 30
The deadline for submitting the yearly life certificate (or Jeevan Pramaan Patra) for government pensioners is November 30. The latest date to submit the life certificate for private-sector employees receiving a pension from the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) under the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS) of 1995 is different.
"EPS'95 Pensioners can now submit Life Certificate at any time which will be valid for 1 year from the date of submission," according to a tweet from the EPFO's official Twitter account.

According to an EPFO circular issued in December 2019 regarding the submission of a life certificate or Jeevan Pramaan Patra, "Employees Pension Scheme, 1995 pensioners' submission of a life certificate or Jeevan Pramaan Patra in November of each year may be replaced by a system of submission of a life certificate/Jeevan Pramaan after a year from the date of the last life certificate/Jeevan Pramaan. As a result, pensioners will be required to present their life certificates/Jeevan Pramaan in the same month the following year, failing which their pension will be terminated the following month."
This means that if you submitted your yearly life certificate on November 27, 2020 as an EPS 1995 retiree, you must submit your Jeevan Pramaan Patra on or before November 27, 2021 for the year 2021. If you do not submit it by this date, you will lose your pension starting in December 2021.
"For government employees who are receiving pension or family pensioners of deceased government employees, the last date of submitting life certificate is November 30 every year," says Amarpal S. Chadha, Partner and India Mobility Leader - People Advisory Services, EY (Senior pensioners, aged 80 years and above, can submit the life certificate between October 1 and November 30).The life certificate, on the other hand, is valid for one year from the date of filing for individuals receiving EPS pension. As a result, it's critical that EPS retirees keep track of the date they submitted their life certificate and submit the next one in the same month the following year."
As previously stated, pensioners must submit their yearly life certificates before the deadline each year in order to continue receiving their pension, i.e., if they do not submit it before the deadline, their pension will be terminated the next month.
Procedure for submitting a Jeevan Pramaan Patra/life certificate
In September 2021, the Department of Pension and Pensioners' Welfare issued a circular outlining the various options for submitting a pensioner's yearly life certificate. Physical submissions, such as visiting a bank or post office, or using a doorstep service, are available, as well as digital submissions. This is true for both government and EPS retirees. Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co. partner Dorothy Thomas notes, "For government pensioners and those covered under the EPS, 1995, the deadline for submitting a life certificate is different. In practise, persons who submit a life certificate through the Jeevan Pramaan Portal can do so at any time of the year, regardless of whether they are EPS, 1995 pensioners, or government pensioners. It will be valid for one year from the date of submission if filed through the Jeevan Pramaan site.About Author
