Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seizes 155 kgs of Hashish
In its ongoing crackdown on narcotic drug smuggling into India, officers from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 155 kg of Hashish in two separate cases in October 2021, which had been smuggled into India from Nepal and was being transported to the hinterland.
On the 7th of October 2021, DRI officers stopped a Renault Duster on the Hapur-Meerut road. A thorough examination of the aforementioned vehicle resulted in the seizure of 85 kg of high-quality hashish, which had been cleverly concealed in a specially built cavity under the boot of the Duster vehicle. The cavity could only be accessed using special tools that were hidden in three different locations throughout the car. Two people were arrested, including the vehicle’s owner.
On October 29, 2021, DRI officers stopped a Mahindra Bolero Pick-up truck in Ramraj town (Uttar Pradesh), near Bijnor. A thorough examination of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 70 kg of high-quality hashish hidden in a specially created cavity near the driver’s side of the vehicle’s carriage body. The hashish was delivered to a dealer, who was apprehended alongside the drugs. The arrested person is a history-sheeter who was previously apprehended by the Uttar Pradesh (STF) in a case involving the seizure of 55 kg of hashish in 2018.
Additional research is being conducted.
