Finance Minister To Introduce Health Security Se National Security Cess Bill in Lok Sabha
Nirmala Sitharaman is set to bring an Ordinance to make changes to the Manipur Goods and Services Tax law. This update will be introduced through the Manipur Goods and Service Tax (Second Amendment) Ordinance, 2025. Along with this, she will also present a bill to amend the Central Excise Act, 1944.
The Finance Minister will introduce a new bill aimed at raising additional money (Cess) for two major purposes – national security and public health. To do this, the government plans to levy a special charge called the Health Security and National Security Cess. This cess will be applied to machines or processes used to manufacture certain
Under this new bill, products such as pan masala and gutkha will be brought under the new cess. For cigarettes, a separate amendment to the Central Excise Act will be introduced so that a cess can be imposed on them as well.
However, the cess rates will remain the same as the current rates under the GST Compensation Cess.
