Former Sub Postmaster Convicted by Visakhapatnam CBI Court, Gets 5-Year Jail Term for Rs 47.95 Lakh Government Funds Fraud:

A CBI Court in Visakhapatnam has convicted and sentenced Damalapati Venu Gopal Naidu, a former Sub Postmaster at Kotturu Sub Post Office in Srikakulam district, to five years of imprisonment in a government funds fraud case. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 7,000 on him.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered the case on March 6, 2020, against Naidu, who was serving as Sub Postmaster at Kotturu Sub Post Office under the Amadalavalasa Head Post Office.

According to the CBI, Naidu committed the fraud between February 21 and August 24, 2019. He was accused of dishonestly withdrawing and misappropriating Rs 47.95 lakh in government funds under his jurisdiction.

The CBI alleged that the accused committed offences including criminal breach of trust, cheating, falsification of accounts and misappropriation of government money by a public servant.

After completing its investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet against Naidu before the court on December 31, 2020.

Following the trial, the court found Naidu guilty and sentenced him to five years in prison along with the fine of Rs 7,000.
