FSSAI Directs Dabur to Halt Sale of Honey, Ghee, Coconut Water and Other Products Carrying Misleading '100%' Claims:

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has recently delivered a Prohibition Order to Dabur India Limited, directing the company to immediately halt the sale of all its products, including Honey, Apple Cider Vinegar, Virgin Coconut Oil, Sesame Oil, Cow Ghee, Coconut Water, Coconut Milk and other such products, carrying the misleading "100%" claims.

During an inspection, the officials of FSSAI had noted that several products on the company's website were being sold carrying misleading "100%" claims, such as "100% Natural", "100% Pure", "100% Purity Guaranteed", "100% Organic" and "100% Tender Coconut Water".

The use of "100" claims on products is considered a serious violation of the FSS (Advertising & Claims) Regulations, 2018, as they are vague, unverifiable, and anticipated to mislead consumers.

The officials discovered that certain products of Dabur, including Dabur Himalayan Organic Apple Cider Vinegar and Dabur Organic Honey, had the Jaivik Bharat Logo on them without completing the mandatory online organic verification and certification checks required by India's Food Safety and Standards Authority, which is an explicit contravention of the FSS (Organic Foods) Regulations, 2017.

Additionally, the "100% Purity" claim was found on the packaging of Dabur Hommade Coconut Milk, which is not allowed for compound foods under the FSS (Advertising & Claims) Regulations, 2018.

Considering all the aforementioned findings, the FSSAI had previously issued a notice to Dabur India Limited, directing the company to discontinue misleading "100%" claims; however, no appropriate action was taken by the FBO.

Now, FSSAI has issued another prohibition order to the company to immediately stop the sale of all the products manufactured by it carrying "100%" claims on their packaging and to submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) within 15 days.
