FSSAI directs Patanjali Foods to recall Entire Batch of Red Chilli Powder due to Non-Conformance of FSSAI Regulations
Red chilli powder is one of the most commonly used spices in Indian cuisine. It not only gives the ideal colour to curries, but it also improves the flavour and spiciness. This red-coloured spice from a well-known Indian brand has been recalled by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has directed Baba Ramdev-led Patanjali Foods to recall red chilli powder of Batch No.AJD2400012 due to non-conformance of FSSAI (Contaminants, Toxins and Residues) Regulations 2011.
The company in an exchange filing said, “Pursuant to Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, we may inform you that Food Safety and Standards Authority of India vide its Order dated January 13, 2025 (received on January 16, 2025), has directed the Patanjali Foods Limited (“the Company”) to initiate recall of the entire batch of implicated food (i.e. “Red Chilli Powder (packed)” of Batch No. AJD2400012 due to non-conformance of The Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, Toxins and Residues) Regulations, 2011.”
It has been stated that the food safety regulator has flagged violations of certain norms.
In the past, numerous leading brands have been notified of adulteration or the use of substandard raw materials in the production of red chilli powder. Chilli powder has occasionally been contaminated with brick powder, salt, talc powder, soapstone, and other ingredients. To add colour, hazardous artificial chemicals are used.
Patanjali Foods (formerly Ruchi Soya), founded in 1986 by Baba Ramdev, is one of India’s leading fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies.
Patanjali Foods is engaged in oilseeds, refines crude oil for edible use, produces oil meal, soy-based food items, and value-added products through downstream and upstream processing.
Patanjali Foods reported a 21% increase in standalone net profit to Rs.308.97 crore for the September quarter. In the previous financial year, its net profit was Rs.254.53 crore.
