Government of Delhi introduces Seva Kendra to improve GST Registration Process

The Delhi government established a Centralised GST Registration Cell (Seva Kendra) today to expedite the registration process, curb tax evasion, and maximise revenue collection.

Delhi Finance Minister Kailash Gahlot told media that, “the establishment of the Centralised GST Registration Cell (Seva Kendra) marks a significant milestone in the journey towards improving the GST registration process in Delhi. It demonstrates the Delhi government’s commitment to fostering openness, combating tax fraud, and maximising revenue collection under the capable leadership of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.”

As per official release, the major goal of the cell is to improve efficiency by lowering the load on ward officials who were previously responsible for scrutinising each application for GSTIN registration.

Ward officials will have more time now that the Seva Kendra has been implemented to focus on critical GST-related activities such as revenue collection, compliance monitoring, return inspection, audits, assessments, and appeals.

Previously, Ward officiers were overburdened with the responsibility of properly reviewing each registration application. This time-consuming procedure frequently took up a significant portion of their time, leaving little opportunity for other vital obligations such as compliance monitoring, appeals, and audits, it noted.

This centralised cell will accept and handle new GST registration applications, resulting in increased efficiency and effectiveness. Furthermore, the department has put in place Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to improve the efficiency and efficacy of the GST registration process. According to the statement, these SOPs would describe standardised norms and rules, resulting in a more simplified and smooth experience for candidates.
