The Ministry of Labour and Employment has notified the appointment of labour officers as compounding authorities under Section 56(1) of the Code on Wages, 2019.

Govt. Appoints Officers for Compounding of Offences under Code on Wages, 2019 Recently, a notification was issued on May 12, 2026, by the Ministry of Labour and Employment regarding the appointment of officers for the compounding of the offences under the Code on Wages, 2019.

The Central Government, using the powers given under Section 56(1) of the Code on Wages, 2019, has appointed certain labour officers to compound offences that are punishable with imprisonment or with imprisonment along with a fine. The officers who have been given this power and the areas under their control are listed below:

2 All Assistant Labour Commissioners (Central) and All Labour Enforcement Officers (Central) in Ahmedabad Region The State of Gujarat and the Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
3 All Assistant Labour Commissioners (Central) and All Labour Enforcement Officers (Central) in Ajmer Region The State of Rajasthan.
4 All Assistant Labour Commissioners (Central) and All Labour Enforcement Officers (Central) in Asansol Region The civil districts of Bardhaman-East, Bardhaman-West, Birbhum, Bankura and Purulia in the State of West Bengal.
5 All Assistant Labour Commissioners (Central) and All Labour Enforcement Officers (Central) in Bengaluru Region The State of Karnataka.
6 All Assistant Labour Commissioners (Central) and All Labour Enforcement Officers (Central) in Bhubaneswar Region The State of Odisha.
7 All Assistant Labour Commissioners (Central) and All Labour Enforcement Officers (Central) in Chandigarh Region The States of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Chandigarh.
8 All Assistant Labour Commissioners (Central) and All Labour Enforcement Officers (Central) in Chennai Region The State of Tamil Nadu and the Union territory of Puducherry (except Yanam and Mahe districts).
