The government has made it essential for private medical institutions to supply 50% of their seats at government college prices in order to benefit the poor and middle-class. Students are choosing to study overseas due to a lack of spaces in government universities and exorbitant prices at private colleges.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has determined that the costs for 50% of seats in private medical colleges and deemed universities should be equal to the rates charged by government medical colleges in that state.

What specifically does it state?

According to the official release, “the benefit of this price structure will be made accessible first to those candidates who have availed of government quota seats, but limited to the extent of 50 percent of the institute’s total sanctioned strength.”

Furthermore, if the government quota seats are less than 50% of the total sanctioned seats, the remaining candidates will be required to pay a fee similar to that of government medical colleges, based solely on merit.

Fees at private colleges are currently set by the state regulating authority for merit seats. However, with the introduction of the National Medical Commission Act of 2019, the NMCS has directed the development of guidelines for fees and other adjustments pertaining to 50 percent seats in private medical institutions.

No Institution shall Levy a Capitation Fee in any Manner

“It must be guaranteed that the principle of education being “not for profit” is properly maintained to while determining costs for MBBS/PG programmes” it stated. The government, on the other hand, has yet to publish an official notification of the office memorandum.

“As a result, while all operating costs and other expenses for running and maintaining the institution for imparting medical education on a sustainable basis are covered in the fees, no extra expense or outrageous profit component should be allowed to be added to the fees,” it stated.

The Conclusion was made after much Deliberation

“NMC reconstituted an expert group on November 21, 2012, which assessed 1800 republished documents and issued amended draught recommendations. The expert committee’s suggestions were accepted by the NMC in its meeting on December 29, 2021” it stated.
