Growing Demand for Tax Deadline Extension: MIF Urges CBDT to Give Taxpayers Additional Time for Audit Reports and Income-Tax Returns:

The Marwadi International Federation (MIF) has submitted a representation to the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), seeking an extension of the due dates for tax audit reports and income-tax returns in audit cases.

In its letter dated September 23, 2026, the federation requested that the due date for tax audit and other audit reports be extended from September 30 to October 31, 2026. It also sought an extension of the income-tax return filing deadline for audit cases from October 31 to November 30, 2026.

The federation said a large number of taxpayers, including traders, manufacturers, MSMEs, family businesses and professionals, are facing compliance challenges. It argued that the existing timeline assumes conditions that have not been fully met this year and that adequate time is needed to complete a careful and meaningful audit before filing returns.

The representation comes amid growing demands from professional and business groups for more time to meet the tax compliance deadlines.

Meanwhile, a user on "X" said that more than 50 representations and several writ petitions have already been filed seeking an extension. The user wrote that despite these efforts, the tax department does not appear willing to extend the deadlines, adding that the demand for an extension would continue to be pursued.
