GST Biometric registration rollout in Gujarat from Vapi on Nov 7
The Goods and Services Tax (GST) department will install a biometric registration system on November 7 that will be rolled out from Vapi, Gujrat in a formal event.
After the installation, the department will collect the biometric data of an applicant at the time of registration for a new GST number.
Gujarat will become the first state in the country to introduce the system of GST biometric data-based registration.
Nirmala Sitharaman (Union minister for finance and corporate affairs) is probably to remain present at the event and launch the project virtually at 10 centres across the state.
According to Kanu Desai, Cabinet minister for finance, the Union minister will launch the project from Vapi, Gujrat. After the pilot project, this GST biometric data-based registration will be introduced in other states too.
Desai added in his statement, earlier Gujrat launched ‘My Bill My Right’ successfully and became the first state in that. Now, we are launching it.
For registration, an applicant has to give various identification documents along with a thumb impression. This will confirm that the applicant is genuine. The registered applicant can be called for verification in the future if required.
Earlier, some of the individuals claimed that GST registration was done in their name without their consent. After that, their bank and essential identity documents were used without their knowledge.
The action will also help the GST department trace any fraudster. Recently frauds have been reported in which Input Tax Credits (ITC) were claimed by individuals with fake identification papers.
GST officer said that with thumb impressions there will be no chances of such fraud. An applicant can’t refuse that he did not apply for GST registration.
