GST Commissioner Battling Illness and Depression due to Office Pressure Dies by Suicide in Noida
Sanjay Singh, a GST Deputy Commissioner, sadly died by jumping from the 15th storey of his appartment building in Noida's Sector 75. His family believes that intense office pressure prompted him to take this dramatic action.
The event occurred at Apex Athena Society about 11 a.m. Singh worked at the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Department in Ghaziabad.
According to reports, the 59-year-old had cancer and was depressed, which may have led to his suicide. MP Singh, GST Additional Commissioner, Ghaziabad, stated that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer five years ago and was in the last stages of the illness, as well as suffering from depression.
His wife, on the other hand, categorically disputed these allegations, blaming workplace stress for his death.
When asked about allegations that Sanjay Singh was battling cancer, his wife bluntly denied them. She responded, "No, he was a survivor. We cannot claim he was battling it... He not only cared for himself, but also assisted many of his loved ones in receiving treatment. Whether it's my sister-in-law or father-in-law."
"We cannot say his cancer was life-threatening. It was stated from the beginning that it was not life-threatening," she explained.
Singh's wife highlighted the mental toll of his job, implying a toxic working environment. Singh was assigned to the GST office in Rajendra Nagar, Sector 2, Ghaziabad, where he handled matters being heard in the Supreme Court of India.
She stated, "He was under enormous mental pressure from the office. Perhaps the individuals in our department will understand. The mental burden was immense."
When a reporter mentioned that Sanjay Singh had recovered from cancer 8-9 years ago, she replied, "Yes, even today, he was great. We were not concerned that anything would happen to him. But what happened, this incident was not normal."
"In some way or another, he became a victim of this system of yours," she harshly stated.
His wife stated, "My husband did not have stage four cancer. That is completely evident, and I have proof of it. Second, whatever happened, the entire system must be blamed. It should be investigated."
Sanjay Singh is survived by a wife and two sons. His elder son works in Gurugram, while his younger son is studying Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) at Sharda University in Greater Noida.
