GST Commissioner Suspended Over Bribery Allegations The Central Government has suspended P. Manikkavel, Commissioner of GST and Central Excise, Chennai South, with immediate effect after allegations surfaced that he demanded an illegal gratification. According to an order issued by the Ministry of Finance, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), a complaint was received accusing the 50-year-old officer of seeking illegal payment. However, with approval from the competent authority, the case has been referred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for further inquiry. Until the investigation is completed, he will remain under suspension.

During this period, his headquarters will be the office of the Principal Chief Commissioner of CGST, Chennai Zone, and he has been instructed not to leave headquarters without prior permission. The suspension order was issued by Manish Kumar Sahay, Director, CBIC, by order and in the name of the President.
