GST Council meeting: Council deliberating on recommendations on GST Appellate Tribunals
The 49th GST Council meeting is being held after the presentation of the union budget earlier this month in in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The Meeting is being chaired by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
GST Council is deliberating on the recommendations of the Group of Ministers (GoM) on the GST Appellant Tribunal (GSTAT).
The states of UP, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Kerala, and Rajasthan have expressed their concerns.
The States of Bihar and Punjab too opposed the recommendations of the Council. The States have expressed their reservations that they want a separate state tribunal from the proposed National Tribunal.
14-15 states have opposed recommendations made by GoM on Appellate tribunals.
Deliberations are still underway.
