GST Department Arrested a Businessman for GST Fraud of Rs.13 Crore

The Maharashtra Goods and Service Tax (GST) department Officials have detained a trader from Pune on allegations of using fake invoices worth Rs. 36.34 crore and evading Rs.13.08 crore in taxes.

Doulat Shivlal Choudhary, 26, is accused of using fictitious invoices that included tax credits that were claimed for 6.54 crore rupees and bogus input tax credits that were claimed to be worth 6.54 crore rupees. He was taken into custody on Wednesday and will remain there until July 27, according to a news release from the department.

The state GST department discovered questionable business activity by Shiv Steel Traders totaling more than Rs 72.68 crore while analysing a group of recently registered taxpayers utilising in-depth analytical techniques and data available on the GST portal.

On April 26, a state GST investigation team from Pune went to Choudhary’s business location in Bhosari, Pune. The team discovered that Choudhary had allegedly produced bogus invoices of Rs 36.34 crore and evaded tax of Rs 13.08 crore, the department claimed. Reshma Ghanekar, joint commissioner of state tax, Pune, was in charge of the investigation. According to the officials, Choudhary was subsequently detained and was placed in judicial prison until July 27 by the chief judicial magistrate of Pune on July 13.

The state GST department in Maharashtra has arrested 27 suspects during the financial year 2022–2023.
