GST Department arrested Four persons in fake GST Billing Scam The city criminal branch, which is working with the state goods and services tax department to investigate the fake billing scam, arrested four people on Sunday, according to officials. On January 4, Taufiq Rangrez, 33, a Danilimda resident, Alfaz Kazi, 25, a resident of KGN Park near Bhikha Thakkar Sheri in Bhavnagar, and Tausif Padhiar, 30, a Shihor resident in Bhavnagar, were detained. Their assistant, Dashrath Nagar, 36, a native of Odhav in Ahmedabad, was arrested on Saturday. Rangrez had established at least 45 bogus firms to obtain input tax credits, while Kazi had established approximately 65 shell companies between 2018 and 2022. Padhiar, on the other hand, had created over 250 bogus firms using counterfeit documents. Cops said the suspects, along with their assistants in Bhavnagar, caused the SGST department to lose around Rs. 500 crore due to fake billing. The city's criminal branch began an inquiry with the department in November 2022, and an offence was lodged on December 15, 2022.
