The state GST department's enforcement wing announced widespread search and seizure operations at eight locations of four ceramics tile traders in Surat on Tuesday. Ceramic traders, according to state commercial tax department officials, have not been complying with GST norms. The tax department recovered Rs.2.12 crore in tax dues from the total evasion, and the procedure for recovering the remaining amount is underway. Tax officials discovered documentary evidence for several unaccounted transactions during the search and seizure operations. The account books revealed that the actual stocks held differed from the documented stocks. Last week, officials raided metal trading firms and arrested three people for tax evasion totaling Rs.155 crore.
