The GST Intelligence and Enforcement Unit, Assam, arrested a person from Jogighopa, Bongaigaon on Thursday, September 24, in connection with an alleged GST evasion to the tune of around Rs 45 crore.
The accused, Abdul Kader, was arrested with the help of the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police, government sources said.
According to sources, Kader was allegedly involved in preparing fake invoices and e-way bills and supplying them to different coal businesses. He reportedly had 12 GST registrations in his name and was allegedly operating as a key figure in the coal trade.
The GST Intelligence Unit had been monitoring Kader for some time. He was reportedly absconding for several days before his arrest. Sources also alleged that he was involved in the smuggling of illegal goods.
Further investigation into the alleged GST evasion and other related activities is underway.
