GST Rate Cut unlikely for auto sector in next Council meeting
The upcoming Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council meeting is unlikely to provide tax relief to the automobile industry, which has been explicitly vocal about the difficulties it is facing as a result of the pandemic and has called for a reduction in taxes.
According to sources close to the situation, the issue is unlikely to be on the agenda for the Council meeting on September 17th. On the condition of anonymity, a top finance ministry source told Business Today, "It is highly unlikely that the Council will take up the matter in the upcoming meeting. "Even without the upcoming meeting, a reduction in GST on the auto sector is unlikely in the near future.”
The 45th GST Council Meeting is to be held on 17th Sep in Lucknow.
