Gujarat Govt: More than 17,000 GST Evasion Cases detected in last Two Years

Gujarat Govt: More than 17,000 GST Evasion Cases detected in last Two Years The state government informed the Assembly on Monday that 17,191 cases of goods and service tax (GST) evasion worth Rs.2,043.59 crore were detected during the last two years. In response to a question from Congress MLA Imran Khedawala during question hour, state finance minister Kanu Desai stated in a written response that 15 people were detained for tax evasion under the GST Act, and a prosecution complaint was filed against them in court. In addition, the GST numbers assigned to the accused and traders involved in tax fraud were cancelled, according to the minister's written response. Citing legal provisions, the minister stated that a show cause notice was sent before beginning the adjudication process to recover the outstanding tax amount. He also discussed approaches like seizing property and bank accounts and blocking the release of input tax credits. The state government has also filed police reports against defaulters, according to the minister. Responding to a question from Congress Legislative Party Leader Amit Chavda, Desai stated that 525 commercial companies in Gujarat owe the government more than Rs.1 crore in sales tax dues.
