HC Directs Centre to Disclose Steps Taken to Allot GSTAT Specific Premises to Function
The Bombay High Court has instructed the Union Finance Secretary to furnish a report (affidavit) outlining steps taken to arrange a proper office for the GST Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) in Goa.
Despite this, the tribunal has already been officially created; however, it has not initiated its functioning yet due to the unavailability of a proper office location.
Previously, on April 01, 2026, the high court had sent a notice to the union finance ministry, urging it to disclose the details of the measures taken to provide the tribunal a proper place to operate.
The court highlighted that since presently, the GST Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) is not operating in Goa, both taxpayers and the tax authorities are facing difficulties, as there is no official body to resolve their dispute, ultimately affecting the statutory remedy.
Consequently, the Honourable Justices Valmiki Menezes and Amit Jamsandekar have now directed the Finance Secretary to submit a detailed report on or before April 27, 2026.
