Income Tax Department sends Notices to Salary Taxpayers claiming Fake Deductions/ Exemptions

The Income Tax Department has recently sent notices to salaried taxpayers against claiming fake deductions/exemptions while filing ITR.

The Tax Department is now asking for proof of deductions/exemptions claimed. It strictly prohibited to claim any kind of deduction and exemption that doesn’t sound legitimate.

Taxpayers are to be cautious while claiming deductions and exemptions for which they are not eligible or showing fake data.

It is advised not to claim fake deductions/exemptions; either you can choose the new tax regime. Claiming fake deductions/exemptions can lead to judicial proceedings.

CA Pratibha Goyal shared on his Twitter regarding the same. She wrote, “Income Tax Department asking for proof of deductions/exemptions claimed. Do not claim fake deductions/ Exemptions! Go for New Tax Regime instead.”
