The Income Tax Officials raided 56 locations in the state linked to two coal barons, Anil Goyel and Deepak Poddar. IT officials stated that they collected a large quantity of cash during the raids, of which Rs.2 crore was counted and the remainder is being computed.

Narsingh Khalko, additional director (investigation) of IT, said the teams raided 38 Goyal and 18 Poddar properties in Dhanbad, Ranchi, Bokaro, Purulia, and Raigadh since 7 a.m. on Wednesday.

“Details of the findings can be revealed only after the raids conclude,” the IT official stated.

According to reports, IT teams conducted simultaneous raids on Goyel, Poddar, and their partners’ offices, residences, and industrial facilities. It featured Goyel’s Ratanjee Road home and his two hard coke plants in Nirsa and Govindpur, as well as the family’s hotel-cum-resort.

Similar raids were taking place at Poddar’s apartment, office, and hotel, as well as his hard coke plant in Topchanchi. Raids were also being carried out on the homes of coal trader Suresh Choudhary, Mannu Singh, and Rana Ranjeet Singh, all of whom are alleged Goyel and Poddar supporters.
