IT Department conducts search operations in Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal

The Income Tax Department conducted a Search and Seizure operation on a group involved in the manufacture and distribution of country liquor, grain-based alcohol, bottling of foreign liquor, running hospitals and educational institutions, etc. on 06.12.2023. This operation encompassed approximately 30 locations distributed across ten districts in the states of Odisha, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.

The group’s business is run by a family centred in Ranchi, Jharkhand. One of the group’s family members is also a Politically Exposed Person who lives in Ranchi.

During the search, a considerable amount of incriminating evidence in the form of documents and digital data was discovered and seized. Preliminary examination of recovered material reveals records of unaccounted country booze sales, systematic details of unreported cash receipts, and references for unaccounted currency movement.

The primary workers in charge of the group’s commercial activities have admitted that the cash discovered and seized during the search operation represented the group’s unaccounted money made via its many business concerns. This was also confirmed by a family member who is actively involved in the business. The information uncovered during the search indicates that the group has engaged in massive suppression of income received from the booze sector.
