Luxurious 38 Hotels under GST Scanner over Tax Compliance
The State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) department is investigating 38 luxurious hotels in Ahmedabad for noncompliance.
As part of an investigation that began on Wednesday, officers from the department began tracking the turnover of the city’s luxury hotels and comparing it to their tax payments.
Several hotels in Ahmedabad have raised their accommodation prices over the recent festival season.
“This was notably true during the ICC World Cup cricket events, which were hosted in this city. SGST officers are visiting hotels to check the payment of tax dues and essential compliances, based on this and general information obtained by the department,” a source said.
The SGST department reviews market trade practises in several areas on a regular basis. The compliance of taxpayers from diverse industries is also monitored based on this.
According to sources, the operation included searches at hotels managed by global hospitality giants such as Taj, Hyatt, Marriott, and Novotel, among others.
