More than 4.67 crore Income Tax Returns filed on new e-filing portal of Income Tax Department
As of December 27, 2021, the new e-filing system of the Income Tax Department had received over 4.67 crore Income Tax Returns (ITRs). On December 27, 2021, more than 15.49 lakh ITRs were filed, and the number is expected to rise as the due date of December 31, 2021 approaches.
ITR1 (2.5 crore), 8.9 percent ITR2 (41.7 lakh), 10.75 percent ITR3 (50.25 lakh), 25 percent ITR4 (1.17 crore), ITR5 (5.18 lakh), ITR6 (2.15 lakh), and ITR7 (2.15 lakh) account for 53.6 percent of the 4.67 crore ITRs filed for AY 2021-22. (0.43 lakh). Over 48.19 percent of these ITRs were filed utilising the portal’s online ITR form, with the other ITRs being uploaded using the offline software utilities.
More than 3.91 crore returns have been confirmed, with over 3.35 crore using an Aadhaar-based OTP. On the new e-filing system, 27.7 lakh Aadhaar OTP requests have been made in the previous three days alone. In outstanding cases, taxpayers are recommended to complete e-verification as soon as possible.
Over 2.88 crore e-verified ITRs have been processed, with over 1.07 crore reimbursements granted for the fiscal year 2021-22.
The Department has been sending out reminders to taxpayers via email, SMS, and media campaigns, advising them to not wait until the last minute to file their income tax returns. To avoid a late fee, those taxpayers who have not yet filed their Income Tax returns for AY 2021-22 are urged to do so as soon as possible.
