Background of the Case The case dates back to May 31, 2023, when the Commissioner of GST and Central Excise, Chennai, challenged the method MRF used to value its goods and issued a demand for additional excise duty. MRF appealed the order before CESTAT in September 2023. After multiple hearings and delays, the matter was finally heard and reserved for judgement in late 2025. On March 16, 2026, CESTAT delivered its final order, allowing MRF’s appeal and granting relief in its favour. This effectively cancels the earlier tax demand.
