PIB Warns Public Against Viral Fake RBI Letter Scam

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has warned people about a fake letter that is being shared online.

The letter falsely claims to be from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). It says that the recipient must first pay a refundable tax of Rs 7,500 to receive a pending payment of Rs 1,00,000.

PIB Fact Check has confirmed that this letter is fake. The RBI does not contact people through unsolicited phone calls, emails, or messages asking them to pay money or share personal or banking details.

If you receive such a letter or message, do not respond or make any payment. If you have already been cheated, report the matter to your nearest law enforcement agency.
