Police rescued Hostage GST Offical Team during Raid in Muzaffarnagar
The Central GST team from Meerut, which was executing a raid at the Rana Steel factory in Muzaffarnagar’s Civil Lines police station area, was allegedly kept hostage on Thursday before being rescued by police.
Police arrived on the scene and successfully obtained the release of the detained authorities. According to authorities, preparations for filing a case are ongoing.
The raid became chaotic as GST authorities attempted to stop Shah Mohammad, the son of former MP Qadir Rana, from fleeing with critical documents. A brawl broke out, and Mohammad was detained. He is also the spouse of Sumbul Rana, a Samajwadi Party candidate for the Mirapur by-elections.
SP (City) Satyanarayan Prajapat stated, “During the raid, a big crowd of people gathered and attacked the GST team, breaking their vehicle’s glass and physically assaulting them. The workers resorted to aggression, assaulting and manhandling the officers.”
Police soon intervened to restore order and ensure the GST officials’ safety. Four individuals and 300 unnamed people have been charged under numerous sections of the BNS, including 191-2 (rioting) and 121-1 (voluntarily causing harm to a public servant).
Shahnawaz Rana, a former BSP MLA, and his cousin Saddam Rana were among those arrested. The GST team is continuing their inquiry.
