RBI New Notes: Will the image of Mahatma Gandhi is going to be replaced in Indian Currencies? Read what the RBI said
From time to time, there is a desire in India that has been raised, that is just as there are pictures of diverse people printed on American currencies, notable Indian personalities other than Mahatma Gandhi should also be portrayed on Indian currencies.
The said rumor of printing the photographs of Mahatma Gandhi along with Rabindranath Tagore and Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam on Indian currencies has been stated incorrect in the statement given by RBI. There will be no changes to the existing Indian currencies.
RBI issued this statement
There were reports that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is preparing for major changes regarding the Indian currency. It was being told that soon the pictures of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore and the country's 11th President APJ Abdul Kalam can be seen on the notes. In a brief statement, the Reserve Bank said, "There are reports in certain sections of the media that the Reserve Bank is considering changes in the existing currency and banknotes by replacing the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi with the photographs of other great personalities. It may be noted that RBI has no such proposal".
This claim was reported in the media.
The Finance Ministry and the Reserve Bank may shortly contemplate including the images of Tagore and Kalam in the new series of certain notes, according to reports. While Tagore is regarded as one of India's greatest poets, former President APJ Abdul Kalam is known as the 'Missile Man of India.' If this were the case, any great figure other than Mahatma Gandhi would be included on Indian rupee notes for the first time.
It was reported in the press that the Reserve Bank of India and the Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India had sent Honorary Professor Dilip T Shahani of IIT Delhi two separate sample sets with images of three outstanding persons. The lecturer is instructed to pick one of the two sets. The set chosen by the professor will be presented to the government for final approval.
There have been similar rumours in the past.
In India, there has been a demand from time to time for photographs of other great persons besides Gandhi to be printed on different notes, just as there are photos of other famous men in America on several dollar (USD) notes. Go. However, allegations that the Reserve Bank is considering utilising photos of great persons other than Mahatma Gandhi have surfaced in the past. However, with the Reserve Bank's formal statement, all doubts were put to rest once more.
