Rs.700 Crore GST Evasion detected by DGGI; 7 Accused Arrested
The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) uncovered a large tax evasion racket, seizing evidence of Rs 700 crore GST fraud during raids in 15 locations throughout Rajasthan, including Bhilwara, Jaipur, Sikar, and Udaipur. The crackdown has sent shockwaves across the state's scrap trade industry.
As reported by officials, the Jaipur Zonal Unit of the DGGI conducted extensive searches and discovered records of 13 lakh tonnes of iron and steel goods delivered without due tax compliance. The projected market value of these goods is Rs.4,000 crore. Following the raids, 7 individuals were arrested on Wednesday in various locations, including three in Bhilwara.
Authorities discovered that some iron goods manufacturers were illegally selling products without GST. Acting on intelligence, officials conducted discreet investigations before establishing a list of factories, warehouses, and godowns associated with the fraudulent activities. Coordinated raids were then conducted, resulting in numerous arrests.
Ghasilal Chaudhary of Jaipur, Kesardev Sharma of Sikar, and scrap merchant Arun Jindal of Udaipur and Bhilwara have all been arrested. Additionally, two people involved in the transportation of goods were also arrested.
The GST evasion network is alleged to extend beyond Rajasthan, into Haryana and Punjab. According to investigations, the accused supplied iron and steel goods through fake companies while avoiding tax restrictions.
Authorities are continuing to investigate this large-scale fraud.
