SBI Issues Warning Against Fraud APK File Scams In recent times, many people have been receiving messages claiming that they have “SBI Reward Points” credited to their bank account, and to redeem them, they need to download an APK file. This is completely part of a cyber fraud, the purpose of which is to steal people's personal and banking information. State Bank of India (SBI) has clearly stated that it never asks its customers to claim rewards by sending any kind of link or APK file through SMS or WhatsApp. Such messages are completely fake. These messages often state that your reward points will expire soon and redeem them by downloading the app immediately. Along with this, a file like “SBI REWARD.apk” is provided. As soon as a person downloads and installs this file, his mobile device can be hacked, and sensitive information like banking details, OTP, and passwords can be stolen.

What to do?
  • Do not click on any such link or file
  • Never download an APK file
  • Use your bank's official website or app only
  • Report immediately if you receive a suspicious message
