Sebi permits FPIs to write down debt securities
Sebi, the market regulator, announced on Monday that foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) can write down all debt securities that they are unable to sell. This will only apply to FPIs who choose to renounce their registration, according to a circular issued by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi).
"In response to numerous stakeholders' requests, it has now been decided to allow FPIs to write off all debt securities in their beneficiary account that they are unable to sell for any reason."
"This shall only apply to those FPIs as wish to resign their registration," Sebi stated.
The regulator allowed FPIs to write down shares in all companies that they were unable to sell in September.
