Securities Appellate Tribunal Appoints Meera Swarup as Technical Member

Meera Swarup, a senior Finance Ministry official and 1988 batch officer of the Indian Audit and Accounts Service (IAAS), has been appointed as the Securities Appellate Tribunal‘s  (SAT) new ‘technical’ member.

For several months, the Securities and Appellate Tribunal had been operating without a third member.

Swarup was also running for a position as a Whole Time Member with the market regulator SEBI. SEBI and SAT had a spat in May of last year about the lack of a technical member on the tribunal that hears capital market matters.

A Notification has been issued in the regard.

The Notification is Given Below:

S.O. 835(E).—In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of section 3 and clause (ii) of section 5 of the Tribunals Reforms Act, 2021 (33 of 2021) read with clause (c) of sub-rule (7) of rule 3 and sub-rule (2) of rule 10 of the Tribunal (Conditions of Service) Rules, 2021, the Central Government hereby appoints Smt. Meera Swarup as Technical Member of the Securities Appellate Tribunal for a period of four years with effect from the date of assumption of charge or till she attains the age of sixty-seven years, or until further orders, whichever is the earlier.
