Simplified regulatory framework for e-commerce exports of jewellery through courier mode The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) released a Standard Operating Procedure on June 30, 2022, which outlines a more straightforward regulatory framework for e-commerce exports of jewellery made by courier (SOP). The SOP outlines the processing, movement, and procedural issues for such exports using International Courier Terminals based on electronic declarations. The framework takes into account the requirement for Customs' actions to be consistent in order to provide trade with assurance. The particular demand of the e-commerce Eco-system for the re-import of rejections to the required amount in some circumstances is also addressed. During this year's Budget speech, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, the Union Finance Minister, announced the introduction of a streamlined framework. After that, the CBIC had extensive talks with stakeholders, including trade groups, industry members, online merchants, authorised couriers, and customs field formations, before finalising the SOP. There has been a month set aside for changeover. Exports start the initial phase through the cities of Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai. To view the SOP and Notification - Click Here
