Sudden Layoff After 16 Years: Bengaluru IT Manager Shares Emotional Experience

A manager at an IT company named Oracle Bengaluru shared his experience of being suddenly terminated from his job after 16 years of service on April 1, 2026. He said that after being associated with the company for a long time, the change in priorities in a day was very unusual and emotionally difficult.

The manager wrote in his post that early morning, at around 6 AM via email, he realised that the responsibilities related to daily work had suddenly ended. He said that his mind still starts making to-do lists for old projects, even though they are no longer his responsibility. He expressed concern about questions related to family, financial situation, and future.

He also said in his experience that despite the termination of his job, he looks back on the last 16 years positively. According to him, the colleagues and partners he met during this time developed him as a leader, and many became lifelong friends. He expressed confidence in his experience and being ready for a new challenge.

According to sources, the company has carried out layoffs affecting around 12,000 employees in India, and another phase of layoffs is likely to happen within a month. The information about the removal of around 30,000 employees worldwide has come to light. The company’s total workforce in India is believed to be close to 30,000, which includes those affected by the layoffs. In an email sent to employees, the company stated that the decision was made to streamline operations following organisational changes, which resulted in certain roles becoming redundant.

The affected employees have been offered 15 days’ salary for each year of service. Along with this, you’ll also receive one month’s notice pay, leave encashment, gratuity (if applicable), salary up to your last working day, and an additional payment equivalent to two months’ salary.”
