TDS Refunds for AY 2025-26 May Arrive Faster

Taxpayers waiting for their Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) refunds can expect getting faster payments than before, for AY 2025-26. The Income Tax Department has improved its system; the refunds are now possible within 7 to 20 days after the ITR is filled and e-verified properly.

However, this benefit can work only if all the necessary steps are completed correctly. These include linking PAN with Aadhaar, pre-validating the bank account, and filing the ITR with accurate details.

Most salaried individuals file their returns after receiving Form 16, which employers usually gives by June 15.

The refund status can be check in real time on the Income Tax Department’s e-filing portal. Here is what the meaning of common refund messages:

  • No e-filing has been done this year: It shows that the return is either not filed or not e-verified.
  • Refund determined and sent out to refund banker: This means that return is processed, and the refund is being sent.
  • Refund unpaid: The returns can’t be credited due to incorrect bank or IFSC code details.
  • Refund paid: The amount is successfully sent to your bank account.
  • Not determined: The return is still being under process.
  • Sent for Refund: The refund is in the final stage and will be issued soon.

For viewing the refund details, users need to log into the e-filing portal first, then go to “Income Tax Returns” and select the option “View Filed Returns”, then click “View Details” for the full status.

There are various reasons for the delay, and the most common ones are PAN not being linked with Aadhar, bank account not being pre-validated or there’s a mismatch between the ITR and Form 26AS or AIS. These mistakes should be fixed to avoid refund delays.

As of now, there is no change in the filing deadline. The Income Tax Department is suggesting early filing to prevent the system from getting slowdowns close to the deadline.

This improved refund system provides a better service, faster settlements and more use of automation in handling tax returns.
