Tenneco Clean Air India Limited has received a show cause notice from the Maharashtra Goods and Services Tax Department over alleged excess claim of input tax credit for the financial year 2022-23.
The company said it received the notice on October 5, 2026, from the Deputy Commissioner of State Tax, Maharashtra. The notice, dated September 29, was issued under Section 73(1) of the Maharashtra Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017.
According to the company, the notice relates to an alleged excess availment of input tax credit worth Rs 285,488,700. It also includes Rs 224,429,799 in interest and a Rs 57,117,740 penalty, taking the total amount involved to around Rs 56.70 crore.
Tenneco Clean Air India said the notice is currently at a preliminary stage and is not a final order or confirmed tax demand.
The company said it believes it has adequate factual and legal grounds to contest the allegations. It is reviewing the issues raised by the tax authorities and preparing a detailed response, along with relevant reconciliations, records and legal submissions.
The company added that it will submit its response within the prescribed timeline and does not currently expect the show cause notice to have any material impact on its financial position, operations or other activities.
