The person who needs to file ITR till 31 July is the certain category of person for whom the date has been extended: As per order of Income Tax department "For certain categories of taxpayers, the due-date of filing income-tax return for assessment-year 2018-2019 is 31.07.2018". There was confusion amongst the stake holder as to who is the certain category of person for whom the date has been extended. But the tweet of Income Tax department has clarified thatthe due date for filing of Income Tax Returns has been extended from 31st July, 2018 to 31st August, 2018 in respect of taxpayers who were liable to file their Returns by 31.07.2018.

For certain categories of taxpayers, the 'due-date' of filing income-tax return for assessment-year 2018-2019 is 31.07.2018. Upon consideration of the matter, the Central Board of Direct Taxes, in exercise of its powers under section 119 of the Income-tax Act, 1961 ('Act'), hereby, extends the 'due-date' of filing income-tax return, as prescribed in section 139(1) of the Act, from 31st July, 2018 to 31st August, 2018.
