The Cyberabad Special Operations Team has arrested two persons for forgery and duping 18 persons to the tune of Rs.28 crore.

Burujukindi Narayana Goud (57), of the Rajanna Sircilla district, and Merugu Shailaja (37), of the Warangal district, are the two people who have been detained. From them, the police recovered Rs 20,000 in cash, three smartphones, a car, and ATM cards.

The accused, Burujukindi Narayana Goud, 57, of Rajanna Sircilla district and Merugu Shailaja, 37, of Warangal district, used to approach people and pretend to be GST officials in order to trick them into purchasing gold and other expensive things seized by the customs department at lesser costs.

The pair would rob their victims and then flee, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Balanagar) G Sandeep in a media briefing.

“After convincing the business people, they would collect huge amounts of money and dupe them. They also collected money from people on the pretext of arranging jobs in GST and other government departments,” said the official.

They were taken into custody by the Special Operations Team (Balanagar) with the aid of the Petbasheerabad police.

The police urged people not to fall prey to these gangs and to call them if someone approaches them and claims to assist them in making money quickly.
