GST Superintendent and Inspector Arrested in Rs 30,000 Bribery Case

Two GST Officials held Red-Handed While Accepting Bribe to approve GST Registration
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in a major crackdown, has apprehended a Superintendent and Inspector of Goods and Services Tax (GST), Ranipet Range, in a bribery case of Rs 30,000. The complainant claimed that the accused GST Superintendent had demanded a bribe of Rs 30,000 to help approve a GST registration. After negotiation, he agreed to accept Rs 15,000. The accused had instructed the complainant to deliver the bribery amount to him on April 07, 2026.
To catch the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe of Rs 15,000, the CBI laid a trap. During the trap operation, the involvement of the GST Inspector from Ranipet Range also came to light. When the accused became aware that CBI officials were present at the crime location, he tried to hide the bribery amount by throwing it into the toilet and flushing it.
However, the amount was later recovered from the toilet. Both the aforementioned accused are presently under custody, and further investigation in the present case is ongoing. The Government of India has suggested that citizens of the nation not hide any such corruption or bribe-demand-related cases and immediately report the same to the concerned authorities.
